Oh, Those Politicians!

Barrack says "Enough"! And McCain's response is ...

Wha' happened? What happened to our Maverick? John McCain is/was the only level-headed, reasonable voice left in the Republican Party. I was a fan of McCain's since 2000 when he ran against George W. Bush. But recently he's become less of a maverick and more of a lemming. It's no surprise that the Democrats are comparing him to another version of George Bush. Where was the McCain we used to know? Seems like John drowned beneath the mud of the Republican old- school policies & politics. And now, McCain chooses a 2-year governor from the State of Alaska. And for what? To get more votes! This VP selection just proved to me that McCain is more concerned about winning the election rather than caring for the welfare of our country. The Vice President is the next in line to the presidency. If something were to happen to 72-year old McCain, Gov. Palin will be our president. Holy cow!!! Rudy Guiliani would have been the best choice. Republicans seem to like the Palin choice, but I'm an independent voter and I say, "No thanks."

And what about Obama's speech? Well, there's really not much to say. I have never seen a politician gather 70,000 people just for a speech. I'm glad that I saw a piece of history Thursday night. Awesome!

The Batman movies sure have come a long way. The Michael Keaton Batman movies were pretty good for its time. I don't even want to mention the Clooney & Kilmer movies because they don't really count as motion pictures - they were more like a 5-year old's version of a bad cartoon movie.

The Dark Knight is perhaps the best movie adaptation of a comic book hero ever created. And I'm not even a big Batman fan. Unlike most people, I didn't think that this movie was just all about The Joker. I thought the screen time was balanced between Batman, The Joker, and Harvey Dent. A big upgrade was Maggie Gyllenhaal compared Katie Holmes who was so-so in Batman Begins. But Heath Ledger definitely stole the show. Best villian ever? Maybe a close 2nd to Hannibal Lecter. After seeing his performance, I felt disappointed and sad. Such a great talent wasted! Who could ever pull off that Joker character ever again? Heath, why? WHY?!!!

Besides being a great action movie, The Dark Knight tackled some deep, disturbing human psychological issues. The Joker represented chaos, madness, and evil - violence without reason. I love Alfred's line when he said, "Some men just want to watch the world burn". We often ask why men do evil things. We often wonder how human beings can kill and destroy without any regard for the innocent. Sometimes, there's just no reason ... some men just want to watch the world burn.

I'd be surprised if Heath Ledger doesn't get an Oscar nomination for his performance. Also, this film deserves to be a Best Picture contender as well. Don't penalize a great movie just because it's based from a comic book character.
