Winter Freeze Part II

‘Cross’ Check
Ok, I take back some of what I said about the Winter Olympics. After seeing the snowboardcross competition, I was floored! What a great sport! This is what racing should be. Players should be allowed to shove, elbow, and body check their competitors off the track. It’s like roller derby all over again! Sweet!

Dancing Queens
Despite the lure of the beautiful women in the ice dancing competition, I’m still not convinced this is a sport. However, I found myself watching the finals ‘til 11:30pm last night. I’m such a sucker!

Oh, Canada
The Canadians won the gold in women’s hockey. No big surprise there. After all, hockey is the ONLY sport in Canada.

The War Within
2 U.S. speed skaters are in a feud over personal choices, differences of opinion, and accusations of selfishness. They must be taking notes from members of Congress. Where’s the unity, people?

*Curling
… is still ridiculous (I don’t care what you say, Michelle). The talk show hosts of KNBR this morning were playing the audio clips from the women’s curling competition. It’s funny how the clips sounded like they were taken out of a porn flick … not that I would know what that’s like. Anyway, the audio clips were hilarious!

Post-Game Show
After watching the events on NBC, make sure to flip over to ESPN2 at 11:00pm for a competition that really matters – the Tour of California. Today, the riders are starting at Martinez and ending the day in San Jose. The starting line is just a 10 minute drive from where I work. I could have left for a few minutes to watch the festivities but unfortunately, I can’t leave work. Work sucks!


* As a joke, my co-worker asked me if the women sweepers in Curling were better than the men. “Of course”, I responded. (kidding)

True Friendship

Ah, "friendship". Friendship is all about the willingness to take a few pellets and gun powder in the face from your Vice President. Not only that, but also feeling bad that YOU caused trouble for Mr. Cheney by letting your face and upper torso get in the way of a freakin' bird.

Tidbits

1 + 1 = 9
Only a handful of T.V. shows bridges the generation gap between parents and children. Recently, Anthony & Shelby have been glued to Season 2 and Season 4 of the Brady Bunch Collection on DVD. I got the DVD’s for Dee since she’s a big ‘Brady’ fan. Little did we know that the kids would also enjoy the episodes. I guess there’s something about the Brady’s that reminds all of us about the simplicity of life in the early 70’s. The Brady’s everyday hassles aren’t comparable to some of the family issues and dangers we deal with in real life nowadays.

Crying Over ‘Shoes’
I found myself getting teary-eyed over some scenes in the movie, In Her Shoes. After watching Cameron Diaz prance around in her panties and boxers for half of the movie, the story suddenly took a sharp turn and became something substantially engrossing and heart-felt. Still, I couldn’t believe I got teary-eyed over this movie – WHAT THE HECK! I’m becoming a woman!

Eurossage
One of our favorite clients dropped off a late Christmas present for me a couple of weeks ago. She gave me the Eurossage – a powerful hand-held electronic massager that produces so much force it will knock your teeth out. It’s not the actual gift that made me happy, although it was very nice. Just to hear that someone we do business with appreciates the work that we do is already a gift in itself. She really made my day.

Brokeback Mountain
Dee and I decided to see this movie. Although the performances were exceptional and “gutsy”, it didn’t stir up any emotions out of me as opposed to the thousands who raved about the film. I actually thought that the ending was a bit anti-climactic. This is a very complex film, not because of the story itself, but because of its characters. I must agree with the critics, though – regardless of its subject matter, this is a truly powerful and well-made film. Even though I wouldn’t put this on my list of best films of the year, it’s one of those movies that I won’t forget for a very long time. Would I recommend it? It depends – some of the scenes in the movie were pretty graphic and truly tough to watch. There were times during the film when I actually felt embarrassed for the 2 lead characters. Like I said, it took guts to put together a performance like that.

Winter Freeze
The Winter Olympics haven’t been all that exciting to watch these past few days. As a matter of fact, I think the majority of Americans could care less. Unlike the Summer Olympics, a lot of the events are not only boring to watch, but also confusing to follow. Curling – what the heck is that?! Why is that a sport? Cross-country racing – shooting targets on skis as athletes trek through the wilderness. Again, why is that an Olympic event? Don’t even get me started with Ice Dancing/Skating – in my opinion, any sport were you have to rely on judges to win shouldn’t be considered a sport at all. By the way, while we’re on the subject, am I the only one who’s sick of the whole Michelle Kwan story? She had plenty of chances to win the gold and she blew it – enough already … let’s move on. On a positive note, though, speed skating and hockey are events that I look forward to watching. Aside for those 2, I'll just stick with “American Idol” for my dose of reality TV and cut-throat competition.

Wedding Update
Ok kids, we finally decided on a tentative date for our wedding. Ready? It’s on October 27, 2007. Now, don’t circle your calendars and make any plans yet. We’re still in the middle of the planning stage. It may very well change. This is just a heads up. Even though it’s still more than a year away, we’re pretty excited. As a matter of fact, Dee started to browse through the wedding magazines immediately after we got engaged. Yeah, we’re excited!

Valentine's Day

- Dee, thanks for the awesome card. I love waking up in the morning with surprises. Well, everyday is a pleasant surprise when we’re together.

- If you look at page F2 of the Chronicle Classified section today, under the Valentine Proclamations, you’ll see the super cool ads that Dee put together for me and the kids. Yeah, “David T.” is me. Dee, you’re the best!

- Last night, Dee and I took the kids to Benihana’s for our annual Valentine’s Day dinner. We had a blast, especially the kids, who got their first taste of fancy Japanese-style chefs. I think they enjoyed the show more than the actual food. Of course, I stuffed myself silly with fried rice and shrimp. Shelby thought our young chef was cute. That girl … I tell ya’.

- Tonight is supposed to be “laundry night” for me. I think I may skip it to spend time with my luv. What’s on tap? An evening stroll, maybe some wine, chocolates, and a chick flick to finish off the night. Any suggestions on the movie, guys?

After soaking up all the hype and the pageantry that was Superbowl XL, I thought to myself - every year we wish for a great game, but instead, we get a 4-hour spectacle of mediocrity, bad halftime shows, below average football games, bad officiating, expensive commercials, and melodramatic subplots – the game within the game. The Superbowl has been reduced to a bad episode of Survivor. However, here are some highlights and lowlights from SBXL:

Reaction to Bush's State of the Union Address

Georgie Boy
Well, what else can I say? There’s nothing new in that speech that I haven’t heard before. You look at the man and you think, gosh, 2 more years of this? It’s been 6 years since he took office and he’s still proposing and talking about the same ‘ol thing. All I heard last night was a lot of empty promises.

Republicans
Stop kissing a** to the president! You can’t possibly agree with every single thing he said – so, why are you still applauding? What happened to forming your own opinions & ideas as opposed to “doing what’s best for the Party”? Just because you’re a Republican, it doesn’t mean you have to support every single thing your President proposes. We really need more John McCain’s in the Senate.

Democrats
Yeah, shame on you too for acting like spoiled little brats. Your sarcastic applause and reactions to the president’s speech were pretty disrespectful. Yes, you have the right to disagree, but to show the public on TV how classless you all are may very well be the reason why you’ve lost the past few elections.

Hilary Clinton
You were chewing gum during the State of the Union address? What?! And you want to run for President?

Iraq vs. New Orleans
There was a lot of talk about Iraq and the Middle East from last night’s speech, but no mention of the rebuilding of one of America’s best cities. Goes to show where the President’s priorities are. Save other countries first before we save ourselves. Make sense?

Foreign Oil
I agree that we should not be so dependent on foreign oil. Score one for the President.

Affordable Health Care
Forget it. We’ve heard this all before. Same ‘ol, same ‘ol. Blah, blah, blah!

Conclusion
George is still da boss! There’s still a great divide between the Republicans and the Democrats. Iraq is still being blown up by insurgents. Iran remains as the scariest guy at the poker table. Gas prices are still ridiculously high. My eye drops still cost $90. The economy is “supposed to be” booming. And, Hilary may still be chewing gum. Here’s what I propose:
