Tidbits: July 2007

Independence Day
On July 3rd, we joined some friends and family in Benicia to watch the Torchlight First Street Parade. The one cool thing about Benicia is its nice, small-town atmosphere, and it was quite evident during their Independence Day celebration. We met up with the gang to watch all the decked-out floats and parade attractions. It did went a bit longer than expected. After an hour, we decided to go home ... we watched Transformers later on that night.

Robots in Disguise
I can't say that Transformers is one of the best movies I've seen this year, but for a fan of the 80's TV show, it was an unbelievable action flick (from a special effects stand point). The story was very average and the dialogue was laughable at times. However, the Transformers movie isn't meant to win the hearts of any Academy Award voters anyway. It was a fun movie to watch with awesome machine vs. machine fighting scenes. Take it for what it is - an action movie for men who still think they're 80's kids. Grade: B-

Hooray for Balloons
For the 5th year in a row, we took an early morning trip to Windsor to see the balloons. This year, Chuck and Lisa went with us. Once again (3 out of 5 years) the balloons didn't take off because of the weather. I think we'll pass next year on going to this festival. We still had fun, though. Balloons are so neat, plus they make for good photo shoots.

Great, Great America
I told the kids that I was going to take them for a hike up in the mountains. In reality, I was actually planning on taking them to Great America in Santa Clara. On Monday morning, Daniel, Lisa, and Chuck joined us for our "hike". Once we got to the parking lot, they figured out that they were tricked. They were definitely surprised. We had a blast all day! The weather was perfect and there were barely any people at the park. One thing I found out quickly though is that I'm too old to go on some of these attractions. At one point, my headed was pounding so hard after getting off the Vortex. Both Daniel and I couldn't keep up with the kids. Thank God for Chuck and Lisa for being there - they took the kids on some of the rides that me and Daniel wouldn't dare go. Yeah, when you get old, headaches come as often as blinking. Yikes! All in all, it was a very memorable day. Good times ... good times ...

And Finally ...
We're not really big fans of The Simpsons, but we couldn't help having fun with their "create your own avatar" on the Simpsons Movie website. Wanna see what we look like?
