Where's Davey?

So, some of you are probably wondering why the blogging has stopped. Well, don't worry. I'm still alive and well ... very well as a matter of fact. In the past, I did most of my blogging during the "slow hours" at work. Blogging made the day go by faster.

Two weeks ago, I officially started my new position in the Chronicle. I finally had the guts to take on more responsibility as an Account Executive. I thought about this long and hard. It's a pretty big leap from being a Sales Associate, which I have been for almost 6 years now. Anyway, with Dee's support and the encouragement of my fellow co-workers and office manager, I went ahead and took the plunge. It's about time, I thought. As someone once said, "If you don't challenge yourself, then you'll never grow."

It has been a hectic but smooth transition so far. I enjoy being out of the office and making sales calls. The majority of the local business owners are nice and decent people. Right now, it's just all about establishing relationships and building trust. The territory that has been handed over to me has plenty of potential to grow. It will take a while, but I know I'll get there.

Perhaps the biggest transition so far has been the travelling I've been doing. My car has already seen it's share of mileage throughout this process. I don't mind it. It's the nature of the business. My RAV4 has literally become an "office on wheels". I now rely on my Blackberry for emails and voicemail. I still hate carrying a mobile device around, but I've learned to deal with it.

Compared to some of the jobs I've had in the past (from flippin' burgers to law enforcement), this is perhaps the most fun and has the best potential for me to make some decent money. Don't get me wrong - money is a big motivator, but it wasn't the main reason why I pursued this promotion. I pray to God every day that He keeps me grounded and for Him to remind me how grateful I should be with this opportunity. Life is good ... God is good.

Congrats Dave! Way to go further in your career. Hopefully this won't affect your blogging frequency too much though.
