Disappointed in Windsor

After getting up at 4:30 in the morning to attend our 4th Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic, we were pretty disappointed once we got there. Because of the fog, the balloon pilots couldn't get the clearance to take off. They did, however, still blew up some of the balloons just to make it worth our while. The kids ended up having fun anyway. They were able to see some really neat balloons and they also had time to play out in the field with their new flying toys.

Hot air balloons look spectacular when 20 to 30 are all up in the air. But grounded balloons, although they look nice, is still not as great to look at. Hence our disappointment. The funny thing is, Dee even emailed Steve Paulson, the KTVU weather man, to ask him how the weather was going to be. He responded by saying that the fog should clear up at sunrise. Oh, those weather men - what comedians! When we got to Windsor on Saturday, it was cold and the fog was still thick. Good one!

In any event, we won't let this experience deter us from future balloon festivals. We just have to ask a different weather man next time. Or, if there's even a hint of fog, we'll just stay home and sleep in.

More photos of the festival to come soon ...

Aw, that's a shame! I was really tempted to stay one more weekend to go to it with you guys. Looked like a great photo opportunity. :)
