Camping 2006: Some Like It Hot

“Hot” doesn’t even really describe the agony that we went through during this year’s annual camping trip. The temperature reached up to 107 degrees on Saturday. Luckily, there was a lake near by where we had the chance to cool off. I don’t see us going back to Millerton Lake in the summer any time soon. The campgrounds were great, but no one should be camping in that kind of heat. Plus, there were ants all over the place. I’m still healing from some of the bite wounds – they freakin’ hurt!
Anyway, the weather did not spoil the fun. Being with the cousins and the family is always a riot. It’s too bad that a large majority of people couldn’t make it this year. Here are some of the things they missed:

No Smores for You!
Yup, the marshmallows melted because of the heat so the kids were quite disappointed. There was another bag of marshmallows but the ants got to them … hmm … I wonder why, boys?

Cake & Ice Cream
Thanks to Auntie Liwanag & Auntie Nene, we were treated to some much needed sweets after being out in the sun all day. The ice cream was definitely a nice welcome surprise. Big birthday props to Rachel as well!

Viva Mariachi
Hopefully, Uncle Jupiter is just going through a phase with Mariachi music. No offense to my Spanish friends, but it’s absolutely annoying.

Babies
No, not those kinds of babies – I’m talkin’ about babies that crawl through the forest, on to the fire pit, and eat hot coals. Yep, some of us have quite a sick imagination.

Kermit
The frogs love being in the restrooms. There was one in the toilet and I freaked out when it started leaping. It’s a good thing I wasn’t sitting on the toilet seat. Who knows where it might have landed. Gross!
