Happy Birthday Jenny and Anthony!

This past Saturday, we had a combined birthday party for Jenny (12) and Anthony (7). We invited 4 of Anthony’s friends over for lunch and a movie. Anthony got great presents which included puzzles, Legos, a “Vote For Pedro” t-shirt, and a Playstation Star Wars game. Jenny got some nice “girly” stuff as well – mainly, perfume, make-up, and music.

After we had cake, we took the all the kids to watch "Corpse Bride". Being an adult, I really enjoyed the movie. The kids said they liked it too, but I thought that the theme of the movie was geared more towards 10 to 12 year-olds. A love story is not all that entertaining for kids to watch, especially young boys. Overall though, Tim Burton proves once again why he’s the master of the unreal and the sublime. The man has a great concept of visual artistry that surprisingly taps a wide commercial audience – unheard of in today’s Hollywood scene. “Art” and “blockbuster” don’t seem to mix nowadays.

Anyway, please greet Anthony and Jenny a “Happy Birthday” when you see them. Give them a big hug too.

Tim Burton is cool, but you know who's even cooler? Christopher Nolan.
