The Circus was in Town
There was a circus last week in New York City. There were lots and lots of elephants and clowns. There were folks wearing red, white, & blue clothing and Purple Heart band-aids. Unlike any other circus, this was an "invited guests only" event. The people who were not invited marched along the city streets in protest. Some of these so-called "protestors" were even arrested and jailed. Most of the protestors actually didn't want this circus in town. Hmm ... I wonder why? Could it be because this circus was responsible for a lot of bad things that are happening around the country? Could it be because the leader of this event is someone who has sent thousands of our knights to their deaths in foreign soil? Whatever the reason, this event was still very entertaining.
As I watched our dear President on Thursday night, I was truly amazed at how good the Republican Party is in regards to campaign speeches. For a while, I forgot about the problems we have in our country. War on terrorism was actually the "noble" thing to do - as long as we're fighting the right foes. Money was actually spent on education. The economy was actually in great shape. Our government has actually helped seniors and sick people. All these things are true - IN THEIR WORLD.
How many schools have cut programs and closed during the Bush years? My company has been in the red since 2002 and we haven't recovered - so much for the economy bouncing back. The cost of my healthcare has increased ($75 for eyedrops? Proposterous!). Over 1,000 soldiers are now dead in Iraq - and for what? A mistake? The Republican Party can say all they want about how great our country has become since George took office, but based from my own observation, they're all lies.
There were some positive things from last week's convention - Laura Bush, she came across as elegant and caring as ever. The "Governator" represented California very well. Bono and Puff Daddy surprised me with their appearances on the O'Reilly Factor - Bono speaking on AIDS was one of the most positive interviews I've seen in a long time. Dick Cheyney - a positive for Kerry - the American people should be afraid of this man after that very very cold speech (I think the man is a cyborg - did he pause to smile at all? did he sweat?) And finally, the Bush daughters who uttered the words, Outkast & Sex in the City, in front of the most conservative crowd in the country. How dare they!
